Here's what we love about the percale, sateen, linen, and cashmere sets.

As bedding enthusiasts, the House Beautiful editors were excited at the prospect of putting together an in-depth Brooklinen review. Though the brand sells almost everything to make your bed feel Pinterest-worthy, this review consists primarily of Brooklinen’s bread and butter: its sheets. So, we asked around the office to find out who has what and asked everyone to share what they love and what they don’t about their Brooklinen pieces. The responses may surprise you!

Anyone who knows and loves Brooklinen surely knows that there are a lot of options to choose from when it comes to the very soft sheets, so rather than reviewing every single one, we opted only for the most popular, which include percale, sateen, linen, and cashmere. Not to give our thoughts away too soon, but let us just say that these are the most popular for a reason. They’re incredible and delivered us the best sleep we’ve ever known. So, if you’re in the market to up your bedding game, you’ve come to the right place. Ahead, read all of our innermost thoughts about our experience with Brooklinen’s best-sellers. They won't let you down.

Brooklinen has some of the best bedding bundles on the market, so we are kicking off our list with the brand's most popular: the percale core set, which includes a flat sheet, fitted sheet, and two pillowcases.

"I bought this set for my first post-grad apartment nearly a decade ago. I have since replaced it because, after hundreds of washes, the seams started to loosen, which I probably could have dealt with, but I couldn't do the bright lilac color anymore," Associate Shopping Editor Jessica Cherner says. "I absolutely loved the set, though, so when I moved five years later (and again three years after that), I bought the set again (and again) in white. They are just so crisp, which is my type of bedding. I don't like a silky feel because I feel like they stick to my skin when I am warm. These feel more like hotel sheets: relatively lightweight, but crisp."

In our opinion, this is one of the best sets to buy, whether you're trying the brand for the first time or you're a repeat buyer. First and foremost, we tested these sheets out and can confirm they're incredible. Not to mention, they consistently sell the most in pretty much every article we include them in. Lastly, a little birdie at Brooklinen confirmed that these are always best-sellers. You can't argue with facts!

If the classic percale sheets had a slightly more sophisticated older sister, it would be the luxe sateen sheets. At a slightly higher price point, this collection is glossier and faintly thicker than its classic counterpart thanks to the sateen, a wrinkle-resistant fabric often used in luxury sheets.

"Brooklinen's luxe sateen sheets live up to its name: It's luxe, indeed! I have the core sheet set and duvet cover in cream and love how rich they look and soft they feel," Senior Commerce Manager Mackenzie Dunn admits. "They're a little more substantial than a linen or bamboo material, so I prefer to use mine in the colder months. However, if you're not sensitive to temperature, they're suitable year-round. I also like how durable they are—I have had these for a few years, and they've held up well through lots of washes!"Dunn isn't the only House Beautiful team member who loves these sheets. Contributing writer Nathalie Kirby says, "Climbing into these sheets felt like climbing into a plush hotel bed, a feeling that's oddly foreign in my incredibly tiny New York City apartment. With a 480 thread count—nearly double that of the classic percale sheets—I found that the luxe version was a slight upgrade, though both reminded me of sets I've slept on in hotels."

Linen, which is derived from flax, is traditionally considered a summer fabric because of its lightness and absorbency (fun fact: it dries more quickly than cotton!). It's also a fan favorite with hot sleepers for this reason.

"Like other linen sheets I've tried before, the sheets themselves have a certain roughness about them—that buttah-like smoothness of the luxe set was swapped for a gauzy, light texture that was more reminiscent of something you'd find in a seaside retreat than a five-star hotel," Kirby notes. "The sheets themselves are airy and breathable, yet soft, but be warned: If you're not used to sleeping on linen sheets, the texture might take some getting used to. Give it a few nights in these sheets, and you'll never want to turn back."

Associate Shopping Editor Janae McKenzie, who also has and loves this set, adds, "I was a bit more hesitant about trying out linen sheets, envisioning a scratchy experience, but the 'washed' feature changes the game. It not only gives a lived-in look, but it makes for extra-soft sheets that keep you cool all night long. They give my bed that effortless luxe feel, a casual yet put-together look I've been dying to achieve. These are super lightweight, and I'm so happy every time I make my bed with them."

The last and most expensive set of Brooklinen sheets we tried was the heathered cashmere. Soft cashmere fabric is ultra-luxurious, but it also conjures up images of heavy fabric that might not be great for sleep in the summer. However, Kirby says they're anything but stuffy. "I highly recommend a first wash on this before use," explains McKenzie. "It'll take the texture from endearing sweater to cozy sheets, and you'll never want to leave your bed. It's a heavier fabric than your linen alternative, but that warm softness is never suffocating. It's also worth the investment in high-quality bedding, especially if you want guest room sheets that can stand up to frequent visitors."

"Perhaps the most notable aspect of the heathered cashmere set is their flannel-like softness," Kirby says. "For sheets with the word 'cashmere' in their name, they were surprisingly light and not overwhelmingly hot. Because I'm a hot sleeper, I slept sans duvet and woke up still snuggled under the sheets. With a comforter, they would be perfect for cold winter nights."

In our opinion, yes, Brooklinen sheets are definitely worth the price. Our only advice is to consider what type of sleeper you are to make sure you're not only getting the most bang for your buck but also to ensure that whatever sheets you end up getting remain your favorite set for years to come. For instance, if you're a hot sleeper, opt for the linen or sateen set. If, on the other hand, you tend to get chilly at night, go with the cashmere or percale options. There's truly something for everyone. What's more, they're made with the consumer (you) in mind, so they can withstand plenty of washes, ironing, night sweats, and more without falling apart. Take it from us: you don't need to be terribly precious with these sheets—any of them.

Each set of Brooklinen sheets comes with detailed care instructions that are sewn right into the tag. For the most part, you can pop them in the washer on hot and dryer on a low-tumble setting. If, however, you're unsure, just be sure to read the instructions. You can always hang dry if you want to avoid wrinkles or shrinkage, but all of Brooklinen's sheets have been pre-shrunk, so that is generally not an issue. The only sheets we'd say to exercise a bit more caution with are the linen ones, which are more prone to shrinkage than the others. If you want to air on the side of safety, wash them in cold with like colors and dry them on the lowest tumble cycle your dryer offers. As soon as the dryer cycle is finished, take the sheets out and lay them flat to avoid wrinkles. Once they're totally cooled, fold them up and store them in your linen closet, or go ahead and make the bed with them.

Yes, Brooklinen sheets can and do fit a standard mattress, which, according to the brand, is 10 inches thick. For anyone who prefers their mattresses on the thicker side, do not worry; you can still snag a pair of Brooklinen sheets for your bed. All of the fitted sheets are designed to tuck over mattresses up to 16 inches deep. Anything thicker than that will probably cause the corners to spring up if you move throughout the night. Keep in mind that the thinner you go, the roomier the feel of the sheets will be, so if you want them to fit snugly over the mattress, you'll need a mattress anywhere between 12 and 15 inches thick. One more thing to note, though, is the stretch of the sheets. Some, like the luxe sateen, are a bit more forgiving than others, like the linen, so if your mattress is on the thicker side, you may want to grab yourself a set of the sateen sheets.

In our experience, Brooklinen sheets hold up pretty well. Of course, the more you wash them, the faster they'll start to fade in terms of quality, but that's generally the case with any set of sheets. The best way to maintain their comfort is to clean them according to the specific instructions. No sheets, no matter how good, are not designed to last forever. In fact, some experts recommend replacing them every two to three years. If you want to invest in the longest-lasting sheets, generally speaking, linen is your best bet. These durable options will last anywhere from three to five years.

When it comes to picking out the best (and most affordable) pieces for any bedroom, including our own, Cherner and McKenzie have been reviewing bedding products for over eight years. Between the two of us, too, we shamelessly have more than eight (yes, eight!) sets of sheets, so who better to write about the best options from one of our favorite brands than us? Since we'd say that we're on a never-ending quest to maximize the comfort and look of our own spaces, you can trust that we have done our homework to find the best sets on the market.

Not to mention, we have covered the best linen sheets, Cherner's personal favorite bamboo sheets, sustainable sheets, and more. For this story, we and several other House Beautiful editors spent weeks, and even years, sleeping on dozens of top-rated bedding brands to determine the best Brooklinen options to purchase. If you're trying to snag more for your bed than just sheets, we've also written about the most comfortable latex pillows, down comforters, and more, so shop away.
